December 23, 2013--The snow is slow in arriving this year but as soon as there is enough to take the groomer out, the groomer operators will begin grooming the trails.  Looking forward to adding information for snowmobile riders who plan to visit Area 29.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR

January 11, 2014--The groomer went out for the first time this season. They opened up the main trails up to the warning hut, over Windy, over Hemlock, around the Iron Gate Loop and down the Basin. The SnoDrifters hosted an event in Elk River this weekend. Hope everyone had a good time.

January 15, 2014--The groomer went out today and went up the Basin, over Hemlock, around Iron Gate Loop, back over Windy to Elk Butte, to Captain's Cabin, Bummy Mart, Windy then out to Big Green and back in to Elk River Airport. The trail conditions are good but the snow depth is low so watch out if you leave the trails. There is 5 feet at the snow pole. Have a great weekend.

January 24, 2014--The groomer went up to Diamond, to Captain's Cabin, Elk Butte, Windy, down the Basin and up and back on Morris Creek. The Mogul buster was used so the trails should be in good shape.

January 31, 2014--The groomer headed out today to groom the trails for the weekend. It went up the Basin to the top, over Hemlock to Iron Gate Loop when the groomer started having problems so headed back to the shed to repair. Lots of fresh snow--2 to 2 1/2 feet of fresh powder. Have a great weekend.

February 5, 2014--The groomer went out today. It went up the Basin, over Hemlock, down the Eastfork, back up to Iron Gate, around Iron Gate Loop to the top of the Basin, up to Windy, back down to the top of Basin, back down to the airport. The snow conditions are good but we still need more snow. Elk River Fireworks Committee will be hosting the drag races on the Airport this Saturday.  Everyone Welcome!

February 6, 2014--The groomer will be going out again today. It will go up to Captain's Cabin, the Tower, down across Windy, down past the Bummy Mart, back to Captain's Cabin, out to Big Green, then back down to town. All trails will have been groomed and ready for riders. Enjoy!

February 14, 2014--The groomer went out Friday evening. It went from the Airport to Diamond, up to Captain's Cabin, to Elk Butte, across Windy to the top of Basin and back down the  Basin to the Airport.

February 17, 2014--The groomer will be going out again before the weekend so the trails should be ready for the weekend.

February 20. 2014--The groomer was out today trying to get trails opened up for the weekend. Lots of new snow. The groomer couldn't get up to the tower due to visibility issues.

February 21, 2014--We are headed up this morning to ride and I will report tonight. The groomer is scheduled out today and tomorrow night so the trails should be great. Get out and enjoy the snow.

Just returned from Elk River and it snowed most of the day. The trails groomed yesterday don't even look like they were groomed with new snow and drifts galore. The snow is great when the storm blows through. It was clear and beautiful when we left town. The groomer went out this afternoon and headed up the Basin. Don't know the planned route at this time. If I hear more I will report here. Have a good weekend.

February 22, 2014--The groomer went out Saturday for a long day. It went from the Airport to Captain's Cabin,up to the Tower, out Windy to the top of the Basin, back down to Four Corners, to Captain's Cabin and back the Airport. There were lots of drifts so the groomer had lots of work to do. The groomer will be heading out a couple times this week to get trails prepared for the weekend. There is lots of new snow and the snowmobiling is great. Enjoy!

February 25, 2014--The groomer headed Tuesday morning and went up the Basin, over Hemlock, down the Eastfork, back to Gold Center, down the Basin to the Giant Cedar and back in to Elk River. The trails are holding up pretty well and there is lots of new snow up high. The wind is causing some drifting. Groomer operators are planning to go out Thursday and Friday this week so all trails should be ready for the weekend.

February 26, 2014--We went to Elk River to ride today and the trails were in prime shape. The weather was wonderful. There were about a dozen riders which is a good number for a Wednesday.

February 27, 2014--The groomer went out again today and just made it back from the snowy woods.   From the Airport, the groomer went up to Captain's Cabin, Elk Butte, Windy to top of Basin  back down Windy and down to Bummy mart.  Then made the 4 corners loop, out to Big Green and back to town  A lite rain most of day with fog. Started snowing at 4:00 pm.

March 1, 2014--The groomer when out Saturday evening. It went up the Basin to Morris Creek, up to Morris Creek Saddle back down and over Shattack to town. the snow is wet and heavy.

March 16, 2014--Gene went up to Elk River snowmobiling yesterday and he reports that the trails were pretty rough until you got up above Captain's Cabin. There was some fresh snow up high. He will try to get up to groom this week but the season is about over if more rain shows up. There were about 7 groups out riding yesterday. Even though it was late arriving, the season has been pretty good.

March 20, 2014--The groomer went out today to prepare trails for the weekend. It headed up from the airport to Captain's Cabin and on up to the Tower (Elk Butte); from there it went back down to Windy, to Bummy Mart, back to Captain's Cabin, out to Big Green and back down to town. Snow is hard but the trails are in good condition. The season is getting close to an end.

Please join me is thanking ALL of our groomers for another job well done. We continue to hear that the trails in Area 29 are the best around and our groomers dedicate many hours each winter keeping them that way.

Thank you, Larry, Gene, Jim and Rich
for all your hours dedicated to snowmobiling.
