Avalanche Training for sledders in West Yellowstone

The Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center and Friends of GNFAC are sponsoring this course.

Date: Thursday, December 20, 2012

Time: 12 noon until 5pm

Location: Holiday Inn, 315 Yellowstone Ave - classroom

Date: Friday, December 21, 2012 - all day field session

The lectures will be conducted during an afternoon (12-5 p.m.) followed by a full day field course. Topics covered include: avalanche terrain recognition, the affect weather has on avalanche hazard, the development of the mountain snowpack, decision making skills, and basic search and rescue procedures. Participants in the field session will each need a reliable snowmobile and basic mountain riding skills. An avalanche rescue beacon and shovel are required.

There is no cost for this workshop; however, a $50.00 donation to The Friends of the Avalanche Center is requested.

THIS COURSE MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS FOR GALLATIN NF SNOWMOBILE GUIDES CERTIFICATION.
